Trimble Navigation announced the release of SketchUp Pro 2013 yesterday – the first version upgrade since the Colorado based corporation took over SketchUp from Google. The new release has been developed with users recommendations in mind for greater flexibility and customisation.
What’s New in SketchUp Pro 2013?
- Extension Warehouse
One of the greatest improvements in the new release is Extension Warehouse – a massive library, containing all the add-ons, plug-ins and extensions, built by the vibrant SketchUp community throughout the years. So if you are looking for a special tool, just browse Extension Warehouse, download the plug-in you need and install it without leaving SketchUp. As simple as installing an app on your smartphone.
- Video Export
SketchUp Pro 2013 features an improved video export functionality, allowing users to create HD videos at 720p, encoded in the most popular formats: H.264, AVI and WebM. Users can now export high-quality videos in a much lighter, smaller files.
- Smarter Toolbars in Windows
The plugin toolbars in SketchUp Pro 8 used to be floating around the screen between sessions, which according to many users was clumsy and not very useful. Trimble has made steps to improve the Windows UI. In SketchUp Pro 2013 users can drag tool icons between toolbars and make SketchUp look the way the want it to.
What’s New in LayOut?
In SketchUp Pro 2013 the Trimble team has turned LayOut into a full-fledged documentation tool for creating scaled, annotated, and dimensioned drawings from models.
- Patter Fills
In 2013 LayOut allows users to fill shapes with hatching and other patterns from a large library of standards – soil, steel, wood, rubber, concrete – or create their own. Patterns can be rotated, scaled or used in combination with solid colours to create an endless amount of variations.
Another improvement in LayOut is the introduction of slimmer and sleeker arrowheads that look much better on drawings compared to the v8 interface. In addition to that the arrowheads in 2013 are built to align properly with their line segments.
- Curved Label Leader Lines
In 2013 LayOut allows users to curve a label line with just a click and drag, compared to the five-step process in SketchUp Pro 8.
- Dashes in Dimensions
Perfection lies in the details. And because readable dimensions are important, the Trimble team has added dashes to the dimension labels in LayOut to make them easier to read.
- Copy Array
In 2013 LayOut allows users to create multiple copies of an object. In the previous version this was only possible in SketchUp Pro.
- Page Numbers in the Pages Panel
Another small but useful improvement is that LayOut’s Pages panel now displays page numbers for easier print and export.
- Faster Vector Rendering
In order to produce high-resolution prints, users need to vector-render their SketchUp model views. The new version of LayOut vector rendering is faster than ever.
- Increased Zoom In Capability
In 2013 LayOut’s maximum zoom capability has been increased from 1000% to 10 000%.
