The ClaroRead SE Literacy Support tool for PC and Mac provides a simple discrete toolbar that will lock onto any software application that is open and active. This software is an ideal screen reader for anyone who can see and control the mouse.

The speech features of ClaroRead SE are powerful. One of the key benefits of ClaroRead SE is that it can read back menus, text buttons and tooltips, as well as any text displayed on screen. The program will also instantly read back any text that is selected using the mouse as well as reading back characters, words and sentences as they are typed. Computer users experiencing dyslexia and other situations have endorsed the speech capabilities of ClaroRead SE.

The ClaroRead SE Settings options can configure the voice, control the speed and volume of the voice, open the pronunciation, edit and save speech to an audio file. ClaroRead SE also has advanced settings that allow the configuration of mouse hovering, mouse select, keyboard echo and text highlighting when speaking text from Microsoft Word.

• Speech Features

ClaroRead SE's ability to make the computer talk is one of its key innovative features. The PC edition uses ScanSoft's RealSpeak voices and the Mac edition includes Acapela voices. These are high quality, human synthesized voices. However, ClaroRead SE may also work with any other Text to Speech synthesizer voice that may be installed on the computer.

ClaroRead SE includes the following extensive range of speech facilities:

• Read text from anywhere within Microsoft Word or the web browser. 
• Any text read back instantly once selected by the mouse. Useful for making web pages and emails talk.
• Echo back letters, words or sentences as they are typed in most applications. Useful for positive confirmation that the correct text has been typed in.
• Automatically hear 'tooltips' read by hovering the mouse over the tooltip. 
• Automatically hear many menu items and objects read by hovering the mouse over the item. 
• Create audio files from documents for listening to later. The files can be transferred to a portable audio device such as an iPod (using separate portable audio player software). 
• Pause between words gives more clarity of speech if needed. 
• Speaking features can be turned off if they are not useful by configuring ClaroRead SE in the Speech Settings menu.

• Making Web Pages Speak

ClaroRead SE for PC and Mac allows most web pages to be spoken back easily in the web browser. To do so, load up the web page that is required to be spoken back and open ClaroRead SE.

If the green Play button is pressed the web page will be spoken from 'top to bottom' in an order that is related to the way the web page is built.

By clicking the mouse at the beginning of the web page article a 'virtual cursor' will appear.

Pressing the green Play button will start the read back, and the sentence will highlight in red.

ClaroRead SE will carry on reading the web page until the Stop button is pressed.

An alternate way of making hyperlinks and text in web pages speak is to 'hover the mouse' over the text.

If there is any difficulty reading back a web page, simply select the text with the mouse and press the Play button. ClaroRead SE will read anything that is selected with the mouse.

• Making Other Computer Programs Speak

ClaroRead SE for PC and Mac will speak back any text that is selected with the mouse. To do this, select or block some text with the mouse.

The text will be spoken back immediately once the mouse button is depressed. To read the text back again, press the green Play button on the toolbar.

To not have the text read back when it is select, turn it off from within the Advanced Speech Settings menu.
