The Name Splitter can solve all of these problems and more!

The Name Splitter add-in for Microsoft Excel can quickly and easily split names that are in one cell into individual names in individual cells.  For example if a cell contains the entry "John R. Smith" or "Smith John R" the Name Splitter creates a new worksheet with "John" R and "Smith" in separate cells. The Name Splitter is totally menu drive and very fast.

Another feature of the Name Splitter will convert a list of names in "Last Name, First Name" order to "First Name Last Name".  If you have company names mixed in with your people names, the Name Splitter has several options to prevent them from being modified.

The Name Splitter works by first asking for you to select the range of cells containing the names.  It then displays the following dialog which asks you to identify the arrangement of the input name list:

You are then asked to specify the output option on the middle names:

Lastly you are given the option to specify the courtesy titles that are recognized as titles or to use the default list. Once you complete this last dialog the Name Splitter creates a new worksheet with the names split per your selections.

The Name Splitter has over 150 courtesy titles and suffixes (including military titles) that it looks for and removes.  And you can easily create and use your own custom list of titles and suffixes.

In addition to being able to split names, the Name Splitter can also separate names from addresses.  For example if you have in a cell "George Burdell 1 Techwood Drive" the Name Splitter can split this into "George Burdell" in one cell and "1 Techwood Drive" in another.
