Quest vConverter offers fast, simple and flexible conversion of:

• physical systems into virtual images (P2V)
• virtual images between hypervisor platforms (V2V)
• virtual images into physical systems (V2P)

These capabilities used on their own or alongside other image-based data protection capabilities – such as Quest vRanger Pro and Quest vReplicator -- can transform data protection in physical systems for use in virtual environments.

•Virtual-to-Physical (V2P) - Convert Virtual Machine (VM) images from either Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware platforms to physical systems. Systems supported for the physical target can be any, provided drivers for the OS on source are available for that hardware. The conversion process takes advantage of Vista Pre-installation Environment (VistaPE) capabilities to enable boot of the OS on the target physical system. Here are some general capabilities:

• Possibility to fully or partially load VistaPE at startup into memory (boot.wim)
• Support for a large number of SATA/RAID/SCSI/NIC drivers
• Capable to read and write on NTFS/FAT32/FAT partitions
• Full networking support
• Automatic hardware detection (PnP)

•Virtual-to-Virtual (V2V) - Convert VM images between Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware platforms. Speed deployment of new virtual servers with rapid VM migration. Assist test and troubleshoot of new virtual server deployments. Maintain mixed virtual server platform environments with greater flexibility to migrate VMs as required, such as to support changing loads, test, and system deployment schedules.

Microsoft Hyper-V Support - Convert physical systems to images on Hyper-V virtual servers. Convert images from Hyper-V to physical systems. Use Hyper-V systems to backup and recover physical systems.
