pdfFactory is a very easy and inexpensive way of converting single or multiple documents into a PDF. You can embed fonts and specify graphic resolutions ensuring that everyone will be able to see the documents exactly as you do.
The preview of the document has the benefit that you can modify the PDF before finally clicking the Save or mail button. You can add additional documents, delete pages, add blank pages and check which fonts are used embedding those you believe the recipient won't have.
Additional features of the Professional version over the Standard include the ability to save any page as an overlay for letterhead footnote or form use etc., and the ability to create bookmarks automatically using existing fonts or headings and manually by clicking on pages in the preview.
pdfFactory Professional.
Send as many documents to an open pdfFactory session as you want. You will see them on a preview screen. At this point you can do the following:
- Add an overlay to the first page only or all the pages. You can create your own overlays by sending a page to pdfFactory and saving it as an overlay.These could be letterhead or layouts such as an invoice framework.
- Add or delete text. You can delete, highlight or redact (black out) text by dragging the mouse across it to mark it. To add text simply click the text icon and click where you want to insert text. Because you can select the font and size, and finely control the position, you can use this feature to update PDFs or fill in forms that arrive electronically It removes the need to print them out, fill them in, and rescan them.
- Add variable information. A range of variables is included to support this such as page number, page x of y, date and time, Bates numbering for uniquely identifying the PDF pages, and a text window into which you can type your own message.
- Add bookmarks - which is particularly easy. pdfFactory will automatically bookmark pages based on headings in the orignal document. Where you need to amend these or add more you right mouse click on the page to be bookmarked and type in the bookmark text.
- Fill in PDF forms. 'Print' the form to pdfFactory Pro and you can then type your information into the boxes. You can also store a copy of your signature and paste this in. Clicking the 'Send' button on the preview will attach the completed form to a new email. This removes the need for 5 separate steps: print the PDF, hand write or type in the form fields, rescan the completed form, turn it into a PDF and attach it to an email.
Access to the PDF can be restricted to cover a wide range of requirements. Viewing the PDF can be password protected and any open PDF restricted for any or all of; copying from, printing or editing.
- Accumulating multiple jobs to a single PDF.
- Variable bitmap compression and separet handling of monochrome and colour bit maps within pdfFactory which improves the quality of embedded scanned images.
- Manipulaion of both jobs and pages. This allows you to change the order of jobs - separate documents sent to an open PDF, and pages. You can also add blank pages and delete jobs or pages making it easy to produce versions of a PDF for different audiences.
- Fonts included in the original documents are listed and can be embedded in the PDF by selecting those you wish to embed. Embedding fonts adds a little to the size of the PDF but means your document will be seen with the correct fonts even if the recipient does not have them on his PC.
- Links to external pages are automatically recognized if they follow standard description methods e.g. http://www.software-partners.co.uk would provide a live link in the PDf that could be clicked on.
- Acrobat viewer options. You can define how the PDf will be displayed in the recipients Acrobat viewer. For example two pages side by side or with the bookmark side panel open.
- Save or Send? There are buttons to either save the PDF or attach it automatically to a new email.
All programs will work under all Windows versions from Windows 95 up to and including Windows 7.
They also include the modules to run correctly under 64 bit versions of Windows.
